Here's a recipe for Bangda Fry, a popular Indian dish made with fried mackerel:
Ingredients:
- 4 medium-sized mackerel (Bangda) fish
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 tablespoon red chili powder
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- Salt to taste
- Oil for frying
- Fresh coriander leaves, chopped (for garnish)
- Lemon wedges (for serving)
For the Marinade:
- 2 tablespoons ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tablespoon tamarind pulp
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder
- Salt to taste
Instructions:
- Clean and wash the mackerel (Bangda) fish thoroughly. Make diagonal slits on both sides of each fish.
- In a bowl, combine the turmeric powder, red chili powder, lemon juice, and salt. Apply this mixture all over the fish, including inside the slits. Let the fish marinate for about 15-20 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, prepare the marinade by mixing together ginger-garlic paste, tamarind pulp, red chili powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala powder, and salt.
- Apply the marinade all over the fish, ensuring it coats the slits and the inside of the fish as well. Let the fish marinate for another 30 minutes to 1 hour, allowing the flavors to penetrate.
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan or skillet over medium heat.
- Carefully place the marinated fish in the hot oil. Fry the fish on both sides until they turn golden brown and crispy. This will take about 4-5 minutes per side, depending on the size of the fish.
- Once the fish is fried and cooked, remove them from the oil and place them on a paper towel to drain any excess oil.
- Garnish the Bangda Fry with freshly chopped coriander leaves.
- Serve the Bangda Fry hot with lemon wedges on the side. It pairs well with steamed rice, chapati, or bread.
Enjoy the delicious and crispy Bangda Fry, which is packed with flavors and makes for a delightful seafood dish.
